The first round proved once again, there is nothing like playoff hockey. We ended on the highest of highs with two series going to a game 7 and to make it even better the Philadelphia Flyers capped off the series by knocking off the Washington Capitals in overtime in game seven. Looking over our first round picks we found out we were break even with a 50 / 50 split; we predicted 2 correct in the Eastern Conference and 2 correct in the Western Conference. With that being said, we will see if we can better our record by looking into our crystal ball and getting all of the second round matchups correctly.

The number one seeded team in the Eastern Conference will look to keep their dominance over the Philadelphia Flyers starting on Thursday night. During the regular season, the Montreal Canadiens swept the Flyers but come playoff time those records are thrown out the window and teams tend to kick it up another notch as they get closer to Lord Stanley’s Cup. With that being said we feel this series will again go to a game seven with the Canadiens pulling out a very fun series.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are a very hot hockey club right now and we feel their offensive firepower will just be too much for the Rangers to handle. By the end of the series I think we will be hearing the names Crosby, Malkin and Hossa a lot which doesn’t bode well for Rangers fans.

Is there anything better than a Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche series? I’m sure how much bad blood is still boiling with these two teams from year’s past but this will be a great series regardless. The reason the Avalanche picked up Forsberg was for this reason only, but in the end the Red Wings will just prove to be a better team overall in six games.

During the first round we didn’t have much hope for the Dallas Stars and we have the same thoughts this round as they take on the hot San Jose Sharks. Led by an aging but feisty Jeremy Roenick, the San Jose Sharks should put an end to the upstart Dallas Stars in six games.
